Whether you are an early bird or a night owl, when you finally get to lay down, you would love to go straight to sleep. There is a lot of evidence that shows that sleep is very important for good health. Believe it or not, there are some foods that can aid in sleep or rob you of your sleep.

Cherries:

Cherries actually contain melatonin. Melatonin is a chemical that your body uses to regulate its internal clock. You can even try drinking cherry juice to have some improvements in the quality of sleep you have.

Jasmine rice:

This rice is ranked really high in the glycemic index. This means that your body can digest it at a slower rate which releases glucose into your bloodstream gradually. By eating this a few hours before bed, it may help you fall asleep faster.

Bananas:

This awesome fruit is full of magnesium and potassium. This will help you to not only feel sleepy but relax your muscles for a better night’s sleep.

Turkey:

We all have wanted that after-dinner nap on Thanksgiving. The reason is turkey contains tryptophan. This chemical will actually help you doze off a little faster at night.

Sweet Potato:

These little guys are a dream when it comes to helping with sleep. They provide lots of complex carbohydrates that promote sleep, and also have potassium which will relax your muscles for a better night’s sleep.
